Gabriele Longobardi was born in Hamburg, Germany and lived in Africa (Zimbabwe), Argentina, United States and now in Brazil.
The different places, peoples and cultures are transparent in her paintings. Very important for her development as a painter were the years spent in Zimbabwe, where the Shona people sculpture stones according to what the stone tells them it wants to be.
The majority of her paintings is created the same way: Distributing lines and patches of oil-paint on the canvas, she discovers step by step what the painting wants to be.
In the last years the influence of the megalopolis Sao Paulo, where she is living, became obvious by painting chaotic city-scenes... and you can find pigs all over the places, who are symbols for luck and intelligence in Germany.

Os diferentes lugares, povos e culturas deixaram claros rastros na sua pintura. Muito importante pelo desenvolvimento artístico foram os anos vividos no Zimbábue onde os artistas do povo Shona esculpem pedras de acordo com o que as mesmas lhes dizem querer ser.
Muitas telas de Gabriele são criadas pelos mesmos princípios: distribuindo linhas e manchas de tinta (sempre óleo) sobre a tela, deixando que a própria tela diga o que quer ser.
Atualmente a influência da mega-metrópole São Paulo, onde ela mora, tem presença marcante nas suas pinturas, bem como também os porcos, que significam sorte e inteligência na Alemanha.

Die verschiedenen Laender, Voelker und Kuturen hinterliessen deutliche Spuren in ihren Bildern. Besonders wichtig fur ihre kuenstlerische Entwicklung waren die Jahre in Zimbabwe, wo das Volk der Shona beeindruckende Steinskulpturen kreiert indem sie den Stein befragen was er werden moechte.
Die meisten ihrer Bilder sind aehnlich frei komponiert. Sie verteilt Oelfarbe in Flaechen und Linien auf der Leinwand und laesst sich dann fuehren...
In den letzten Jahren wird in vielen ihrer Bilder deutlich spuerbar, was es bedeutet in einer Mega-Metropole wie Sao Paulo zu leben... und in fast allen findet man Schweinchen in den verschiedensten Ausfuehrungen, das deutsche Symbol fuer Glueck und Intelligenz.
